Use Fans to Circulate Air and Dry Floors

After a flood, water damage can be extensive and costly to repair. One of the most important steps in mitigating water damage is to circulate air and dry floors as quickly as possible. This will help to prevent mold and mildew from growing, and it will also help to dry out the materials in your home.

Circulating Air

  • Open all windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate.
  • Use fans to circulate air throughout the house. Place fans in areas where there is a lot of water damage, such as basements and crawl spaces.
  • Run fans continuously until the area is dry.

Drying Floors

  • Remove any standing water from the floor.
  • Use towels or a mop to absorb as much water as possible.
  • Place fans on the floor to circulate air and help to dry it out.
  • If the floor is made of wood, it may be necessary to remove the carpet and padding to allow the floor to dry completely.

Caution

Electrical hazards can be present after a flood. Be sure to turn off the power to any areas that have been flooded before entering. Do not use fans or other electrical appliances in areas that are still wet.
